Do I need to move furniture?
Yes, rooms must be completely empty before we start. Most homeowners move furniture to other rooms, a garage, or a storage unit. We can recommend moving companies if needed. Small items (lamps, décor, etc.) should also be removed. We can work room-by-room if you need to keep some spaces functional.
Can you install flooring over existing flooring?
Sometimes, but not recommended. LVP and laminate can sometimes go over old vinyl if it's smooth and well-adhered. Tile must be removed — you can't install new flooring over tile. Carpet must always be removed. Installing over old flooring risks height issues with doors, uneven surfaces, and trapped moisture. We always recommend removal for best results.
What's better: engineered hardwood or luxury vinyl plank?
Engineered hardwood is best for living rooms, dining rooms, and bedrooms where you want real wood's warmth and resale value. It costs more and can't handle moisture. LVP is best for basements, kitchens, bathrooms, and high-traffic areas — 100% waterproof, more durable, and costs less. For main living spaces, we recommend hardwood. For wet or high-traffic areas, choose LVP.
Do you install new baseboards?
Yes. We remove old baseboards during demolition. If they're in good condition, we can carefully save and reinstall them. Most clients choose to install new baseboards for a fresh, clean look that matches the new flooring. New baseboards cost $2–$5/linear foot installed, including paint-grade material, installation, caulking, and painting.
